Grant management can raise complicated questions: Is this expense eligible? Can we partner with a private company? What documentation is required? How should we report outcomes? How should we respond if we’re concerned with falling out of compliance?
As transportation demand management programs evolve, many grantees are using multiple funding sources to support innovative, locally responsive work. State-funded grants can be an important tool, but they also come with specific requirements related to eligible expenses, subcontractors and consultants, reporting, documentation, performance measures, and compliance. Understanding these expectations is essential for maintaining funding, reducing risk, and positioning programs for future grant opportunities.
This interactive session will provide a practical overview of state grant management basics while exploring common challenges grantees face in real-world implementation. Topics may include expense eligibility, use of contractors and partners, reporting requirements, documentation standards, compliance expectations, and strategies for communicating with funders.
The session will also include small-group discussions where participants can share questions, lessons learned, and practical solutions with peers in similar organizational contexts. State funders will also gain a better understanding of grantee challenges, helping strengthen technical assistance and improve shared expectations.
