Amtrak provides daily service between Portland, OR and Spokane, WA on the way to Chicago with stops between in Washington at Vancouver (WA), Bingen, Wishram, and Pasco on the Empire Builder route.

Amtrak offers group fare discounts from 3 or more passengers traveling coach. Booking must be made through this link to get group fares. This includes Empire Builder service and Cascades service up and down the I-5 corridor. Bingen is the closest Amtrak stop to Stevenson.

A cab ride between Bingen and Stevenson with Gorge Taxi will run in the $65 range (not including gratuity) . There is no Uber or Lyft in the Gorge.

For people who want to use the train on Sunday, Oct 1, you can board Amtrak's Empire Builder at either the Portland, OR or Vancouver, WA stations. The train departs Vancouver's station ~25 minutes after Portland.


Greyhound provides daily service between Portland and Boise, ID with stops in between at Hood River, OR; The Dalles, OR; Pasco, WA; Pendleton, OR; La Grande, OR; Baker City, OR; Ontario, OR; and Nampa, ID. Hood River is the closest Greyhound stop to Stevenson.

A cab ride with Gorge Taxi will run in the $65 range (not including gratuity) between Hood River, OR and Stevenson. There is no Uber or Lyft in the Gorge.

Sunday option (Oct 1)

The Columbia Gorge Express is a daily bus route that serves Cascade Locks, OR (across the river from Stevenson) and operates Monday-Sunday.

The Columbia Gorge Express connects Portland's Trimet Gateway Transit Center (NE 99th Avenue & Pacific) to Cascade Locks (OR) (Thunder Island Brewing Co., 601 Wa Na Pa St). The Gateway Transit Center has MAX Light Rail service connecting to Portland’s Amtrak Union Station via the Green Line. The Columbia Gorge Express service costs $10.00 one way in cash or you can purchase a daily or annual Gorge Pass.  

Connect to Skamania Lodge across the river from Cascade Locks, OR with Gorge Taxi.

Monday-Friday, Skamania County Transit also runs from Stevenson into Cascade Locks.

Additional options for Monday and Tuesday (Oct 2-3)

Skamania County Transit – which serves Stevenson directly – is Monday-Friday only.  

Skamania County Transit connects Stevenson directly to both Vancouver, WA (at C-Tran’s Fisher’s Landing Transit Center with connecting C-Tran service to downtown Vancouver with a stop less than 1 mile walk to Vancouver, WA Amtrak station) and downtown Bingen (and its Amtrak station across the street from the Skamania County Transit stop at Heritage Plaza Park and Ride).  

The closest Skamania County Transit bus stops to Skamania Lodge are:

·       Hegewald Center (1 miles along Mill Pond Trail)

·       Stevenson Central (1.5 miles along city streets and Mill Pond Trail)  

Connecting public transit services to Skamania County Transit:

  • Additional Gorge Pass participating transit providers in the Gorge: Columbia Area Transit, The Link Public Transit (OR), Mt. Adams Transportation Services. Gorge Pass allows riders to use all of these services in addition to Skamania County Transit.

Amtrak, FlixBus, and Greyhound all offer multiple trips per day up and down the I-5 corridor with stops in Vancouver (WA) or Portland (OR) to connect to local transit options or Amtrak’s Empire Builder train (Empire Builder departs late afternoon eastbound seven days a week).   Amtrak offers group fares for 3 or more passengers booked together in coach including on Amtrak Cascades and Empire Builder services in Washington and Oregon.
