Washington State Ridesharing Organization

120 State Ave NE, Box 191 Olympia, WA 98501

Welcome to the Washington State Ridesharing Organization (WSRO), a group of ridesharing professionals from the state of Washington, founded in 1988. WSRO was established to encourage policy makers, employers and commuters to support the use of transportation alternatives to driving alone. The goal is to reduce air pollution, traffic congestion, and energy consumption throughout Washington State and the Pacific Northwest. WSRO was incorporated as a 501c(6) non-profit organization in 1989.

WSRO offers its members an opportunity to meet on a regular basis and discuss transportation issues, as well as, develop relationships between public and private organizations. WSRO also develops and provides its members promotional materials and marketing resources about ridesharing. WSRO is comprised of a five member volunteer Board of Directors and over 100 individual members. Directors are elected to staggered two year terms by the voting members of the organization. The Board meets on a regular basis to develop workshops, conferences, and support two state-wide ridesharing campaigns.

The Organization sponsors two workshops a year: one held in Eastern Washington and the other in Western Washington. Over the past few years WSRO has reached out to our regional neighbors and co-sponsored joint workshops in Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, British Columbia. In 1991, WSRO created its Recognition Award to honor those individuals, groups or organizations that exemplify the commitment to our mission and the concept of ridesharing. The organization has evolved over the past 20 years to include transportation demand management (TDM) professionals in a range of professions from public transportation, civic planners, public and private sectors and advocacy groups promoting the use of sustainable transportation options.

WSRO actively encourages individuals to use commute alternatives through the "Wheel Options, your trip, your way" campaign that occurs twice each year in April and October that focus on reducing congestion, reducing air pollution and decreasing energy consumption. Promotional materials, employer tool kits, incentives and prizes are developed and promoted across the state in an effort to educate individuals and encourage the use of commute options.

WSRO is excited to offer this comprehensive statewide campaign to employers and commuters each year!
